CHARLES DICKENS: A LIFE BY CLAIRE TOMALIN

CHARLES DICKENS: A LIFE BY CLAIRE TOMALIN

Charles-Dickens-A-Life-jacketIdentifying this publication as the perfect moment to broaden the author’s appeal beyond the broadsheets and BBC Radio 4, we devised an ambitious and wide-ranging media campaign to ensure that 1) Claire Tomalin was at the centre of the Dickens bicentenary celebrations and 2) that Charles Dickens: A Life became one of the most talked about books of the year.

Winner of the Publicity Campaign of the Year Award at the British Book Awards 2012, the campaign was praised by the judges for its clear, creative strategy and its populist approach, which had a “reverberating impact that lasted from publication in October through Dickens’s bicentenary in February, resulting in phenomenal sales”.

Coverage included: 10 national newspaper/magazine interviews; double-page features in outlets including The Sun, The Mirror, Radio Times and Time Out; over 60 national reviews; 10 national broadcast hits (including FOUR outings on BBC Radio 4); and a splash on the front page of the Guardian.
