We love the challenge involved in paperback reinvention – how can you create another wave of press attention for a title that has already had extensive coverage in hardback with all angles from the book already explored? In this case, we suggested that Alain create a ‘Manifesto For Atheists’, and set about creating a big news story to launch it.
Planning the announcement to within an inch of its life, the strategy paid off: news coverage appeared across the national newspapers, was a huge hit online and Alain discussed his Manifesto on no less than 10 national broadcast programmes (including two appearances on BBC 1).
In the week of publication, the book jumped 55,000 places on Amazon and went straight into The Sunday Times Top Ten bestsellers list.
