Theatr Clwyd: Wales’ largest producing theatre

Theatr Clwyd, Wales’ largest producing theatre, has appointed culture specialists Riot Communications to handle its UK national PR.

Built in 1976 to provide cultural opportunities for people living in North Wales, Theatr Clwyd’s stages have since been graced by stars including Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Timothy Dalton, Owen Teale, Katherine Parkinson and many more.

In addition to producing world-class theatre, the organisation delivers a huge amount of educational and social impact programming to support people living in its communities: each week it runs over 25 different creative initiatives reaching over 1,000 people aged 4 to 98 across not only its home county of Flintshire but also North East Wales including Wrexham and over the border to Cheshire.

Theatr Clwyd is also home to Wales’ national artist development initiative, Stiwdio Clwyd, a landmark programme that delivers ambitious professional development for theatre-makers. It has just completed a £50 million redevelopment of its Grade II-listed, 10,000-square-metre complex with accessibility and inclusion built in at every level. Its new restaurant and café are run in partnership with acclaimed Welsh chef Bryn Williams and have, within 12 months of opening, featured in the Michelin Guide.

Riot Communications will handle Theatr Clwyd’s UK national PR, with a focus on reinforcing its position as one of the UK’s most important producing theatres.

Liam Evans-Ford, Executive Director and Co-CEO at Theatr Clwyd, said: “We’re excited to be working with one of the UK’s leading cultural publicists as we embark on the next phase of our journey following our building’s successful £50m redevelopment.”

Caitlin Allen, MD at Riot Communications, said: “Theatr Clwyd is a shining example of what an exceptional theatre can be: an inspiring home for the arts and performance, an incubator for outstanding talent, and a welcoming hub that benefits the mental and physical health of its communities. The team there are leading the field at a UK national level in so many different ways, and we’re delighted to become their retained PR agency.”
