Case study - Aardman Animations
Celebrating 50 years of a national treasure
The brief
Long-term Riot client Aardman Animations – the Oscar-winning creators of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run and more – is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. Our brief was to use this moment to celebrate Aardman’s achievements over the past half century, shout about its current projects including a new feature film coming in autumn 2026, and build even more excitement for the future with key messages about Aardman’s big ambitions for the 50 years to come.
Our approach
Following a detailed planning process looking at activity across the year – which included new releases, exhibition openings and a whole host of audience-engagement activities – we devised a strategy that would focus on in-depth, message-rich brand pieces delivered through long-form storytelling, including extended features and minidocumentaries.
We prepared a spokespeople strategy for the year which would ensure we celebrated the incredible achievements of the studio’s founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton and Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park, whilst also raising the profile of the studio’s current leadership, including MD Sean Clarke and Chief Creative Director Sarah Cox, and spotlighting brilliant talent in every department across the business.
Highlights so far include a ‘behind the scenes’ special episode of The Rest Is Entertainment shot at Aardman’s Bristol studios, an extensive profile of the studio’s impressive history and equally ambitious future plans in the FT Life & Arts, and a minidocumentary on the history of Aardman’s totally unique clay with the Wall Street Journal.
